The New Paltz United Methodist Church Endowment Fund was created by an All Church/Charge Conference to receive gifts donated to our church.

    There are two ways the Endowment can grow. ONE WAY is for the value of the securities it is invested in to increase. While this is a reasonable expectation over time, we all know that at any given time the value of investments can go down as well as up.

    The SECOND WAY for the Endowment to increase is through your gifts. Your gift will stay in the Endowment, what will increase is the amount distributed each year.

There are many ways to give to the Endowment:

•   Put the Endowment in your will.
•   Name it on your life insurance policy.
•   Make it a beneficiary of your 401(k).
•   Give a gift in memory or to honor someone.

    A gift to the Endowment will continue your support of our Congregation into the future.

    A formula for identifying the income of the Endowment and how to use it was adopted when the fund was created. The amount available is 4.5% of the average balance as of June 30th of the previous three years.

    Using this calculation the income available for distribution is calculated each year. The formula for the distribution of income is:

• Local Ministries - 60%,
• Outreach Ministries - 10%,
• Capital Improvements and Church Repairs - 30%.

    The distribution of the income is to “be made subject to the direction of the Annual Church Charge Conference based on the recommendations received from the Administrative Council and the Planned Giving Committee”.

    Suggestions for spending the income from the Endowment Fund are forwarded as follows:

    Local Ministries and Operations: The Committee or Commission responsible for that area of Church life will put together a budget that goes to Planned Giving then to the Finance Committee then to the Administrative Council as part of the over-all budget that will be presented to the All Church/Charge Conference.

    Outreach Ministries: The Outreach Committee will draw up a budget that will go to Planned Giving then to the Administrative Council then to the All Church/Charge Conference.

    Capital Improvements and Church Repairs: The Board of Trustees makes its budget that goes to Planned Giving, then to the Administrative Council then to the All Church/Charge Conference.
